The essence of Prista is derived largely from the stages its two founders, Billie Anne Schoppman and Don Jarrell, had moved through before creating the company. Both progressed through positions of increasing responsibility for leading companies in the areas of clinical services, operations and quality for hospitals and software product management, technology strategy and intellectual property management. Together they bring deep commitments to excellence in service-oriented business and product-oriented businesses and the results of this can be seen in the Application-as-a-Service model on which Prista is based.

Mark Smith
Chief Executive Officer

Mark has over twelve years of experience as an entrepreneur, President and CEO of a variety of privately held companies. His experience ranges from electronic contract manufacturing, aerospace, internet social networking, and healthcare. His first start-up was built over ten years and sold in 2003.

Since selling his first business, Mark has held President, COO, and CEO positions in the healthcare rehabilitation and occupational health space. These included Pneumex, Inc., a physical therapy equipment and services company, and AmeriCare Clinical Technologies, an occupational and workers’ compensation play. Mark’s early career was as a consultant with HBO & Company implementing healthcare information systems, which was bought out by McKesson.

With half of his career outside of the healthcare space, Mark brings a thoughtful and practical perspective to healthcare business models. He is an execution-oriented executive who focuses on business model development, operational excellence, customer experience, and goal alignment with stakeholders. He also brings a noteworthy network of investor contacts and relationships strategic to Prista’s mission.

Mark has a Masters and Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Management Engineering. He is the Executive Director of Bikes for Goodness Sake. His other charitable focus is on business and spiritual development for the people in Eastern Congo with The Congo Purpose.

Billie Anne Schoppman RN, BS, CPHQ
Chief Mission Officer & Co-Founder

As the Chief Mission Officer of Prista Corporation, Billie Anne Schoppman brings over 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry to Prista. In her role, Billie Anne provides domain expertise for the application development, as well as, creates and manages a network of healthcare consultants as part of Prista’s operations advisory board and marketing channel.

Prior to her role at Prista, Billie Anne headed up and provided leadership for DTI Healthcare Professionals, where she still plays an active consulting role. Her focus at DTI Healthcare Professionals includes executive-level consulting services in change and improvement processes relating to health care operations, policy, quality, and finance, with a strong operational and e-management focus. In addition, Billie Anne provides advisory and execution services in hospital operations, clinical services management, quality management, education and strategic IT. Prior to DTI Healthcare Professionals Billie Anne held many executive positions including Sr. VP of Clinical Services at Cornerstone Healthcare Group, Regional Director of Operations at Vencor, Inc. (currently called Kindred) and several nursing management positions.

Billie Anne holds a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Management from the University of Alabama and a Nursing Diploma from the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing.  Continued education included courses at the Kaplan College for Legal Nurse Consulting and Master’s Program for Hospital Administration at the University of Alabama.

In addition Billie Anne is a member of multiple affiliations including, Acute Long Term Hospital Association, American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants, National Association for Healthcare Quality and National Association of Long Term Hospitals.

Don Jarrell
President, Product Creator & Co-Founder

As the President of Prista Corporation, Don Jarrell brings over 25 years of technology experience in, product management, technology strategy and licensing and intellectual property to the company. In his role, Don drives the development of the corporate vision, product innovations and marketing operations. With an extensive background in technology, Don also plays an active role in the definition and design of the ActionCue Clinical Intelligence application.

Prior to his role at Prista, Don founded Digital Thinking Inc. (DTI), a consulting firm for software and high-tech companies. In his role at DTI, which he is still involved with, Don specializes in consulting on business strategy, licensing, protection and commercialization of intellectual property. Before founding DTI, Don held several long term positions including roles at Alcatel USA where he was the Software Business Manager and Northern Telcom, Inc. where he was the Manager of Product Line Planning/Product Line Management.

Brian Deterling
CTO, Software Architect & Co-Founder

Brian Deterling is the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) at Prista and the Chief Software Architect of Prista’s ActionCue Clinical Intelligence application. Brian has over 20 years of experience in software development in a variety of industries and technologies. Prior to joining Prista, Brian was the co-designer and architect of the Insight™ application at Blue Sky Technologies. Brian was also a key member of the team that launched Blockbuster’s DVD delivery business and was the lead architect for the Blockbuster Online web site. Prior to that, Brian spent 9 years at EXE Technologies (now SSA GT) in a variety of roles including Senior Software Architect for the company’s warehouse management and slotting applications.
